a digital collage of moth wings arranged as the profile of a woman's face.
A painting of two girls wrestling back to back while contained within a hornet's nest, with their arms, legs, and heads bursting out. Against a blue sky.
A Painting of two mirrored screaming baby heads with hornets and a hive structure behind the heads.
A Painting of a side view of a nude pregnant woman cradling her stomach. Her head is cast down with a sheer black veil over her face and a small part of her skin is missing exposing ribs and hornets.
Painting of a red head woman looking over her shoulder at the viewer. She is enmeshed in a root-like amorphous mound from mid-back down that turns into a hornets nest wrapped around her head and shoulders like an Elizabethan collar. A red corn snake weaves in and out of the roots and onto her left arm. There are hornets, a spotted feather, hornet larvae, and lichens on her body or earthly armor.
Painting of a woman's hands covering the bottom of her face, eyes peering at the viewer, with a giant hornet's nest for the top part of her head.
A painting of two women's heads converging, connected by a hornet's nest. The woman on top has her tongue sticking out with a hornet crawling on it.

ABOUT EMILY

Emily Flint Hall is a Central Virginia artist who draws on her experiences as a mother, woman, and nature-lover. Emily paints unsettling portraits of women and nature. Drawing from a life-long struggle with severe depression, anxiety, and ADHD, themes of mental illness often appear as stinging insects, snakes, or thorny vines. She mixes acrylic glazes, slowly building layers on birch wood, while allowing the wood grain to show through.

Emily studied Photography at the Savannah College of Art and Design and Art Education at Virginia Commonwealth University. While enjoying numerous creative media as a former Art Educator, she began experimenting with painting in 2009 and has been evolving with each new work.

Emily lives with her husband, three young daughters, two cats, and a corn snake in a wooded area near the James River.
